Wednesday and Thursday - Polymers, Lipids and Carbohydrates
Wednesday we learned that monomers (one unit) join together to make dimers (2 units) and polymers (many units). It takes energy and gives off one molecule of water for each bond formed. This is called polymerization or dehydration synthesis.

Thursday - Properties of Water Part 1
Today we talked about water. Water is polar like a magnet. It is attracted to other water molecules (cohesion) and other objects like a straw (adhesion). Cohesion causes surface tension so bugs can walk on water. Adhesion allows water to move up from the roots to the leaves in plants.

Wednesday - Carbon
Today we learned about the properties of carbon (forms 4 bonds, makes long, complex molecules) and the organization of life from small and simple to large and complex. These are the pages that we completed. If you missed class, make sure you fill in these pages in your packet when you get back to class.
